A Loving Heart

 I started writing this hymn with the theme of Ezekiel 11:19, “I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh. ” From there it went its own direction.

A Loving Heart
by A. J. Higgins
Though dark the night upon my soul,
With sorrows all oppressed;
My Lord can make me pure and whole
And give His promised rest.
What pick can break the heart of stone
But Christ’s redeeming power?
The saving grace of God alone
Can help me in this hour.
For He will give a loving heart
To those who trust His Word!
He bids me from my sorrows part,
My Christ and loving Lord.
He beckons me! Why should I flee?
I am His dearest child!
For He will save from sin’s cold sea
And waves all rushing wild.
Safe on the shore, on Jesus’ path,
I walk with God, my guide;
I trust in Him! I place my faith
On Him who walks beside.
O, sinner, turn to God today
Why should you, trembling, hide?
He’ll guide you in your darkest day,
Whatever shall betide.
