When Through The Stormy Waves

“For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who was in every sense tempted like we are, yet without sin.” – Hebrews 4:15

The Bible uses many names to describe Jesus, one of the most prevalent in Hebrews is “High Priest.” John calls Jesus the “Word”. The Holy Spirit is called “Comforter”. The Father is “Helper”, “Sovereign”, and “Judge.” It is with the names of God in mind that I wrote this hymn.
When Through the Stormy Waves
by Antonio J. Higgins
When through the stormy waves,
I have a Helper close,
The Savior of imprisoned slaves;
Whose mercy freely flows
To help the sin-sick soul distressed
And give eternal rest.
He is almighty God,
Whom angels all adore;
Who is my home and my abode
And whom I bow before;
My Trust and stay through times of need;
I’ll go where He will lead.
Deliverer and Lord,
My help when sorrows come,
My trust and hope and living Word
That surely brings me home;
Who bids my troubles to depart
And cheers the struggling heart.
He is my Great High Priest,
My Advocate and Friend,
Who is my Savior and my Christ
And help unto the end;
No other friend I have but He,
Who is my victory.
My Comforter and hope
For every time of grace,
Who lifts the burdened spirit up
To see my Father’s face;
Who helps me in life’s wearied way,
My comfort and my stay.
The Help of all who come,
Who wipes away all sin,
There is no sin to great a sum,
For grace can make you clean;
He is the Giver of true grace,
With kindness on His face.
